Environmental friendly packaging
We do our best to use recycled materials.
We try to use the correct amount of material for each delivery to reduce environmental impact. As environmental issues are relatively new in Sicily, we are constantly looking for new solutions to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Through our work locally and with the search for environmentally friendly solutions, we hope to raise the issue faster.
Recycling delivery material
Please use our guide below how to recycle delivery material. The reason you do not find this guide in your delivery box is to reduce environmental impact. Much of the packing material you can reuse to your own gifts and items, such as for Christmas.
We follow the three principles of recycling; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
First remove plastics and paper from the cardboard box. Fold the box to save space.
Deposit your cardbaord at the nearest recycling bank, or in bins provided by your local council.
Do not leave the cardboard box out in the rain as wet cardboard does not have a market.
In your compost bin you can add the following:
- Hair and fur
- Shredded paper
- Coffee grounds
- Tea bags (natural material)
- Crushed egg shells
- Cooked pasta and rice
- Crumbs from the bottom of snack food packaging
- Raw fruit and vegetable trimmings
- Stale bread, pitas, potato chips or tortillas
- Old herbs and spices

- Natural cork
Cork is a 100 percent natural, biodegradable and renewable resource. Cork is such a durable material, you can recycle corks into anything from craft supplies to flooring.
Contact a Cork organisation to recycle cork, or local supermarket or in your compost bin. If you recycle in your compost bin, be sure it is natural cork and not mixed with plastic.
For synthetic cork, recycle in the right station.
Glass is separated into 3 colours: green, brown and clear.
- Deposit glass at your nearest recycling bank by throwing them into the appropriate container.
- Many supermarkets have glass-recycling banks, enabling you to recycle glass on your weekly shop.
- Most home recycle bins, provided by your local council, usually accept glass
Make sure you wash out the glass before putting it into recycling bins. Reuse glass whenever possible. Jars can be used as small containers and bottles can be used as vases.
Metal is separated into 2 groups: aluminium and steel. ou can test which metal your waste is by using a magnet. Aluminium metal is non-magnetic whereas steel is magnetic.
Most home recycling bins, provided by your local council, usually accept metal. Make sure items are clean before recycling.
Find out if there is a cash for cans scheme operating near you.
Paper is separated into the following groups:
- Office paper
- Phone directories
Deposit used paper at your local recycling bank. Most home recycling bins, provided by your local council, usually accept paper products.
Reduce paper waste by cancelling unwanted subscriptions and deliveries. Put a no junk mail please sign on your letter box. Buy recycled paper.
There are about 50 different types of plastic. The main types include:
- HDPE – Opaque bottles
- PVC – Transparent bottles, with a seam running across the base
- PET – Transparent bottles, with a hard moulded spot in the centre of the base
Deposit used paper at your local recycling bank. Most home recycling bins, provided by your local council, usually accept paper products.
Wash the items before recycling them.
- Take wood to civic amenity sites for recycling.
- Wood can often be reused to make other items, such as a bird table for your garden.
- Wood can often be added to your compost heap, such as sawdust and wood shavings.
- Buy recycled wood whenever possible.
Recycling old or damaged pallets prevents unnecessary landfill and reduces the need to chop down trees for new wood to make new pallets. There are companies that offer pallet recycling absolutely free.

Algae: Seaweed. “Vegetable” that grows in the sea. Very healthy and edible. Seaweed contains many vitamins and minerals; including iodine, iron and calcium. Pas dose/ Dosaggio zero: No syrup/ sugar is added during the production which is common with champagne and brut in general.
Semola/ Semolina: Semola wheat is a result of the grinding of durum wheat. Durum wheats form is longer, translucent and hard. The result is less white color and a more granular flour. With semola the dough is more tenacious, more difficult to work by hand but excellent for bread-making and pasta production. It absorbs more water and makes it possible to make pasta without adding eggs.
Semolina is rich in protein and has higher satiating power. Rich in carotenoids which are excellent antioxidants, useful eliminating free radicals.
Surlie: When a wine ages, the lees release new elements which changes the wines flavor, aroma, structure and composition. Each grape variety gets affected differently. The reasons why Sur Lie method is used; Reduce oak tannins, create a specific flavor and avoid oxidation. Sur Lie is a process of aging wine lees (dead yeast cells and/or grape particles that drop when a wine is fermenting), this meaning that the lees are left in the wine during aging. This way the wine in is contact with the dead yeast cells which adds flavors, aromas, depth and complexity.
Timilia: An ancient Sicilian variety of durum wheat, extremely resistant and easy to grow. It is a wholemeal and healthy flour with high protein value and a low gluten index. After milling, the flour has a grayish color. For bread making the perfume is more intense and for pasta making the taste is stronger. Timilia is naturally resistant to pests and therefor it is not necessary to use fertilizers or pesticides, the wheat grows naturally 100% organic.
DOC, Denominazione di Origine Controllata
The most common label on italian wines. DOC is ruling quality and geographical authenticity, but more generous than DOCG labeled wines. The geographic zone might be a little bigger and the rules be more flexible about what kind of grapes might be used in production.
Eng: Designation of origin
DOCG, Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita
This label guarantees that the wine producers follow the strictest regulations possible to make wine. The wine has been tested by a committee that guarantees the geographic authenticity of the wine and its quality.

Those who produce IGP must follow a strict production regulation. IGP is more permissive on the origin of raw materials only, it protects recipes and some typical production processes, but not necessarily the origin of the product in its whole.
Eng: Protected Geographical Indication
IGT, Indicazione Geografica Tipica
This label was created after DOC and DOCG for wine producers who can not live up to DOC and DOCG stricter standards but are making high quality wines, and to protect the typical locality of their production.
