Technical: Harvest end September, early October. Manual work process with natural organic fertilization. Prevalent treatments based on Bordolese mash (compose of copper sulphate and hydrated lime) and sulphur. Refinement in steel tanks. Bottling three or four months after refinement process.
Winery: Tree sapling and espalier made of low yield sapling at 600 m.a.s.l. Volcanic soil, exposure Etna north. Age of the vineyard is 60 – 100 years. Wine fields built on terraces where the wind passes easily between the ranks and excess water flows away. Family owned wine fields with wine production since 1880.
Background story: The name is inspired from Madame Butterfly, the Japanese tragedy where a geisha leaves her past, family and Gods to follow her love, an American sailor under Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton with tragic consequences. The name came as this wine flies as a butterfly and is connected with the Nibali wine yards Rose wine, Pinkerton.
