La Gelsomina is a so called Agriturismo since 1980’s on the east slope of Etna with a magnificent view towards the Mediterranean sea and Taormina. Agriturismo means they offer accommodation but also has own food produce.
La Gelsomina produces wine with 15 hectars of vineyards located 550 m.a.s.l., and well known for their special shape of vineyard, shaped like an ancient Greek theatre. Since 2018 they also collaborate “cross island” with winery Tenuta Orestiadi located on the Sicilian west coast. They often organize events and wine master classes where local producers of Sicilian wine and food usually are invited.
They produce indigenous Etna grapes only; black: Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, white: Carricante, Catarratto and Moscato dell’Etna. Visited of course the special shaped vineyard and stayed to taste to wines.
Once you sit down with a glass of wine, finger foods, spectacular view and the silence… one does not want to leave for a while. Etna wines are very diverse in aromas and quality therefor it is important to taste different wines regarding altitude and weather direction. A very complex unique area.
